> Encana - A big oil company here in Calgary. They hire a lot of contractors (I think they do mostly java development) and keep the good ones for a long time. Generally they post jobs through local recruiters like SI Systems and CNC Global. Located in many buildings in downtown Calgary, they have just completed a bit of a re-org (early 2007) and are gearing up for some new projects hiring Java contractors, BA's, and PM's.
> Cortex - Cortex develops document exchange software using Microsoft and IBM tools. They have a number of clients in the oil industry.
> Elluminate - Elluminate builds and markets live Web Conferencing and eLearning solutions for real-time organizations. They use java related technologies and they are located east of the downtown core, close to 30th street NE.
> Enfocom International Corp. - Enfocom was established in Calgary in 1999 and specializes in custom software development, e-commerce applications and sophisticated web applications. They use a variety of development tools - Microsoft platform and ColdFusion as well as C++.
> Enbridge Inc. - Enbridge Technology Inc. is the IT/engineering of the Enbridge oil company.
> Energy Navigator Inc. - Energy Navigator Inc. develops software products for the oil industry.
> Enmax - Enmax is an energy distribution, supply and service company. Based here in Calgary. They certainly have some applications in Java. I was pinged in early 2007 on a Java Swing project to update a residential gas reading system.
> Entero Corporation - Entero is a IT consulting company that has a number of applications they market. They develop in Java, XML and Oracle.
> EPIC Unisource Inc. - EPIC (Emergency Preparedness Interaction Center) builds and sells interactive, web-enabled, All-Hazard Emergency Response Systems. They have some interesting, high profile clients.
> Epicor Software Corporation - An American IT consulting firm with an office here in Calgary.
> eTelligent Solutions Inc. - eTelligent Solutions is an Albertan company with offices in Calgary and Edmonton. They are BIG into Microsoft Great Plains financial applications.
> Energy Resources Conservation Board - The ERCB is part of the Alberta Government's Ministry of Energy. They have their own 15 story building downtown right beside the old MacDougal School. They have software that they've developed in house using .NET and SQLServer that manages industry applications for resource development.
> Fekete Associates Inc. - Fekete Associates Inc. provides integrated reservoir management services and software to the oil and gas industry world wide. Founded in 1973, the company has a client list of over 1000 companies worldwide. They program in C++, hooking into the Microsoft Foundation Classes.
> Firetoad Software - Firetoad Software is a game development company, developing games for XBox and PC's. They develop in ANSI c and started here in Calgary.
> Fording Coal - Interviewed with them in summer 2005. They were looking to move their legacy system to a .NET platform in 2005, and they were looking for experienced OO/Agile developers to help them. Haven't heard since how that went.
> The Forzani Group - The Forzani Group's head office is in NE Calgary. They own a number of sport store franchises including SportCheck, SportMart, and RnR. I'm not so sure they use ATG Dynamo anymore. Their job descriptions (currently hiring as of Sept. 2007) talk more about Java with Spring and Hibernate along with Ruby testing tools.
> Full Circle Systems Inc. - "Full Circle Systems, established in 1996, is a privately held company with offices in Denver, CO and Calgary, Alberta. Specializing in the management, design and implementation of software solutions that leverage business critical documents."
> Gemini Positioning Systems Ltd. - Gemini Positioning Systems do a lot of work with GPS mapping with Visual C and the .NET development tools. They are located in south east Calgary.
> General Dynamics Canada - GD is located just north of the Deerfoot Atria (64Ave N) in Calgary. They are very involved with the Ministry of Defense and there's lots of C++ and electronics development.
> GEO-SLOPE International Ltd. - GEO-SLOPE creates software the makes geotechnical modeling accessible and practical for all geotechnical engineers. Based in downtown Calgary, they develop using .NET.
> geoLogic Systems Ltd. - "geoLOGIC was founded in 1983 with a goal of providing improved software and data to the Oil & Gas industry in Alberta."
> Geomodeling - Geomodeling develops geoscience software for the oil and gas industry. Their head office is in downtown Calgary, and they have sales offices in the States and China. They work with C++ in Visual Studio on a variety of target platforms.
> Glenbriar Technologies Inc. - Glenbriar creates and supports business technology solutions as well as delivers VoIP, IP call centre, and technology management solutions for small and medium enterprises. They are big into Cisco hardware.
> Global Thermoelectric Inc. - Develop SCADA applications to support their hardware for oil, gas, and utility companies around the world.
> Graycon Group Inc. - Graycon specializes in IT security and network infrastructure solutions. They have offices in Edmonton, Red Deer and Saskatoon, and their head office is in Calgary.
> Guest-Tek - Guest-Tek is the largest provider of hospitality broadband services in the world with installations in over 3,300 hotels. They are currently hiring in their Calgary office and looking for people with JSP, PHP, Ajax, and Linux experience.
> GuildOne Inc. - GuildOne has a software suite called Synergy that they develop in downtown Calgary in Java.
> Hatsize Learning Corporation - "Founded in 2000, Hatsize Learning Corporation is the leader in next-generation online lab environments for the e-learning, software and peripheral training industries." They code using PHP, MySQL, Java, and XML/XSL.
> Husky - Again, a pretty well known oil company with their Canadian head office here in Calgary. They have current development happening on both .NET and Java platforms.
> i4i Inc. - i4i provides Collaborative Content authoring, content management and publishing solutions and tools for regulatory compliance activities.
> ICEsoft - ICEsoft is based just north of SAIT, and developes it's own browser and web components based in java. They are pretty cutting edge in the web realm, writing numerous white papers on different aspects of web technology.
> Ideaca Inc. - Ideaca is a software consulting company with a wide range of clients and utilized technologies.
> ILI Technologies Corp. - ILI is a small-cap company that services a number of different industries including the oil and gas sector, utilities, communications, and transportation.
> Immersive Media - Immersive Media Corp. is headquartered in Calgary and is a leading provider of full motion, high-resolution, interactive video platform and production services. Product offerings include hardware, software, and multi-platform distribution services.
> Interalia - Interalia was founded in 1975, and develops transportation related software that they have sold around the world. Based in Calgary.
> Intergraph Canada Ltd. - Headquartered in Calgary with offices in many of the large cities in Canada. Microsoft based development with Oracle and SQL Server.
> Intervera Data Solutions - Intervera provides automated data quality software and services for the energy industry. They are located downtown and use Java and Oracle.
> Intuit Canada - A well known Canadian software company that does development in .NET, mySQL, SQL-server, and Oracle in Edmonton and Calgary.
> IRM Systems Inc. - IRM Systems is a privately-held database software and web development firm, founded in 1989 and based in NE Calgary, that specializes in serving associations, membership-based organizations, and other not-for-profits.
> Iron Lava Corp. - Iron Lava is another privately held consulting firm specializing in web, print and software design and development. They work with C++, .NET, Java... the list goes on. Located in SW Calgary.
> IRIS Systems Inc. - A Calgary based software consulting/outsourcing company.
> ISPW BenchMark Technologies Ltd. - Formed in 1986, Calgary-based ISPW BenchMark specializes in helping large IT installations manage complex application development and delivery across various operating system platforms, languages, and databases.
> iStockphoto - iStockPhoto have a large international ecommerce website (PHP/MySQL) that developers support in an Agile environment. They are currenctly hiring (June 2008) and looking for developers with PHP, Java, Apache, Mysql, and Ajax experience. Their head office is located in Southeast Calgary.
> Ivrnet Inc. - Ivrnet specialized in Web-Telephony Integrated services. They develop on the .NET platform with mySQL and their head office is in NE Calgary.
> Jazz-it! - A former student of mine at SAIT is the design leader at Jazz-it!. They use CaseWare and CaseView to help support accountants, so if you have an IT background with accounting experience, this might be for you. Located in NE Calgary.
> Keane - While Keane does not have an office in Calgary, they are a big IT consulting firm out east (Toronto, Halifax), as well as big in the States.
> Kelman Technologies Inc. - KTI is a seismic processing and seismic data managing organization located in downtown Calgary with offices in the the States and the uK.
> Kojents Inc. - Kojents Inc. provides custom software development services using all the popular languages, databases and platforms. Based in Calgary.
> Kryos Systems - Located in downtown Calgary, Kryos has developed award winning software. They are a consulting firm that develops mainly in java.
> Landmark Graphics - A large international consulting firm with an office in the Epcor building here in Calgary. Locally, they develop in java and other languages.
> Lexi.net - Developing custom solutions in Java, PHP, .NET, mySQL and Flash in downtown Calgary.
> LongView Systems - Long View Systems focuses on solutions and services to support IT infrastructure. If you are a good unix systems admin, this place might be a good bet. Located in downtown Calgary.
> Mark's Work Wearhouse - Mark's head office is in Calgary and they manage their data and POS systems in house using Java technology. As of early 2007, sounds like they are kicking off some new development projects. Could be hiring some java developers.
> Metafore Corporation - Metafore implements and supports dynamic IT solutions, as well as operates as an IT recruiter.
> Metso Corporation - Metso is a Finnish company with a large office in south Calgary where they do software development.
> Modis Inc. - Modis is a large IT consulting firm with an office in downtown Calgary.
> MRF Geosystems Corporation - MRF provides high-end software tools for mapping and GIS. They develop in C++.
> MSI Systems Integration Ltd. - MSI is a privately owned Canadian network and systems integrator based in Calgary and serving the Alberta market since 1981.
