Summer's over and school started today. After a busy long weekend and a little bit of anxiety, Kornelia is very excited because she got the teacher she was hoping for.
We were up in Edmonton over the weekend. Uncle Pete and Aunt Hammy celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and we drove up to celebrate with them. After checking
into our hotel early Friday evening, it was off to West Edmonton Mall to have supper and hit some of the rides. The kids loved that - go-carts, mini-roller-coasters,
bumper cars, pirate ships, etc. They slept well that evening. We spent Saturday morning at Whyte Ave. and the Farmer's market, and Saturday afternoon in Bon Accord
with family celebrating the anniversary. Sunday we went to our old church and caught up with friends there. After church, we had lunch with the Hait's and went for
a nice walk in the ravine by their house (see the picture of the kids below).
Ewa's parents left for Poland Aug. 8 - one day before the big shake down in England with terrorist alerts and no carry-ons allowed. We were sure thankful about that
since their carry-ons were quite packed. They had a great visit here. After our time in Radium in early July, we stayed around Calgary for the most part. Ewa took
everyone to the Farmer's market here, and her parents loved the waffles they had for breakfast there. I took Ewa's dad golfing a couple of times on one of the
municipal golf courses and he really enjoyed that. We all went downtown to Eau Claire Market one hot day and the kids spashed around in the water park there. Now they
are settled back in their new apartment in Poland and feeling great.
Erik is in 'junior kindergarten' this year three days a week. He's really excited about that. Both of the kids are enrolled in swimming lessons on Saturdays until the
end of October this fall and they're really looking forward to that as well. We've done a lot of swimming so far this year, and it'll be interesting to see how they do
in their respective classes. I'm scheduled to teach an evening course at SAIT this fall until the end of October. It's a course I've
been teaching twice a year there for a different program. This fall they happen to have enough students enrolled in the evening course to make a go of it, so I offered to
teach. All in all, it should be a busy start to the fall.
Other exciting things that happened this summer were Kornelia going on a roller-coaster for the first time at Callaway Park. It totally thrilled her and she immediately
wanted to go again. Erik gave a speach in front of everyone (much to the surprise of everyone) at the 50th anniversary celebration, thanking everyone for coming. We all
had fun at a picnic hosted by our children's pastor's family at Edworthy park. Perry had a blast drumming with his bank in church a couple of weeks ago. And Ewa and Perry went
for a date and watched Pirates of the Caribean II (we were somewhat dissapointed).
