Spring in Calgary is an interesting time of year. It can be 20 degrees celcius one day, and then a blizzard the next.
Its April 18 today and we're just getting rid of the remains of the last ice storm that blew through. The leaves are only starting to bud on a couple of trees. Many people's lawns are still full of dead grass from last fall.
The last weekend in March, my Dad, my brother Paul, and I went to Edmonton to celebrate our birthdays (we're all April babies). It was Dad's 60th this year, and Ewa thought it would be fun if the 'guys' go together by themselves and did something fun.
So we stayed a couple of nights in a hotel close to West Edmonton Mall, ate out, had a paint-ball fight, watched an IMAX movie, and relaxed. A great time was had by all, and we're sure Dad will never forget his 60th birthday (getting a paint-ball square between the eyes - fortunately, he had safety goggles on).
Kornelia continues to have fun in school. She enjoys drawing and playing the piano. I taught her 'Chopsticks' the other day, and she plays in all the time now, adding her own improvisations. I'm trying to encourage her to try it in different keys, but she's not quite ready to take that step yet.
She drew a picture of a pig last week in Sunday school (helping in Erik's class) that was quite remarkable. Over the Easter break, Kornelia was very busy visiting friends and being visited - it was a great time for her, and we were very proud of how well behave she was.
I have to put this last thing in here so I won't forget it - Every once in a while, Kornelia will be excited about something that will happen in a day or two. That has given rise to her asking 'Is the day after today tomorrow?'. It kind of makes us chuckle when we here that question.
Erik understands quite a bit of what we say now. It is funny to hear him adamantly refuse something when he's understood the question. He very emphatically says 'No' with a vocal inflection that really says 'you know I already told you I wanted something else, so why are you asking me about this?'.
He loves getting out of the house and going on walks or trips in the car. There was an interesting episode last weekend where he actually locked Ewa out of the house by playing with the locks on the doors. Ewa eventually managed to get him to unlock the door again. That was one of those things that you can look back on and laugh about, but it wasn't so funny at the time.
The BIG news this time around is the purchase of our house went through! Ewa is packing things up here and very busy in her mind with scenarios of how to decorate the new place. We take possession of the new place on APril 30. We'll actually move in on May 8. I have to move a washer and dryer and a central vac and get them installed before we move in.
Pictures of the new house can be seen on the Photos page. Below is a picture of the front of the house. This is God's provision for us!
Work for me continues to go well. They have me mentoring a junior java developer along with my other responsibilites. I'm enjoying it a lot.
