Summer 2006 Photos II

Perry, Ewa, Kornelia, and Erik McKenzie
May 21, 2012

Photos from the Summer of 2006

Another picture of us in the hot pool and Radium Hot Springs. Babcia and Dziadzo had a great time here. You could really see that they were relaxing and enjoying themselves.
Driving to Radium Hot Springs, you have to go through this gorge which is really quite spectacular. 500 meters down the road from here is the town of Radium. 500 meters up the road are the Hot Springs.
This is that same gorge from the other side. Parts of those cliffs hang right over the road and have little tufts of flowers growing on them.
Kornelia and Erik sitting on a road by the gorge.
Close to the condo we stayed in there was the Radium downtown playground. This was one of the older pieces, and we all had a blast getting on and 'horsing around'. Babcia laughed so hard she was crying. Erik is wondering what all the racket is.
Radium is British Columbia golf central. There are tonnes of golf courses in the area. In fact, our condo backed onto one. Dziadzo had never been to a golf course or really watched golf, so I took him for a few rounds to a par 3 just north of Radium. We both had a good time.
Dziadzo is being my caddy. I had a couple of pretty good rounds for not golfing for about 5 years. You can see our golf cart to the right.
Check out this scenery. What more can you say? It was a great place to golf. There were hardly even any mosquitoes here.
The kids and I took Babcia and Dziadzo for a hike through the area where we had stayed as a family in 2004. This is the same river that created the gorge in the pictures above, and in fact, this spot is less than 100 meters from the gorge. The mosquitoes down here were atrocious. Note the branches in Babcia and Dziadzo's hands for swatting them - we had repellant on too!
Looking in between the trees in this picture you can see the end of the gorge from the bottom.
After that mosquitoe infested hike, we went for a drive back through the gorge up to the top of the pass and took this picture of the next valley in between the two mountain ranges.
Kornelia really wanted to try horseback riding this summer. It turned out that there was a trail riding place about a kilometer from our place. Before we went in the morning she was so nervous she was just about sick. But then once she was on the horse it was all VERY good! Here she is on her horse name 'Bear', happy as punch.
Here we go on our trail ride. Just Kornelia and I went. My horse was named Simon. We saw two deer on the ride as well as a wild turkey. When Nana was done, she was all ready to go on another one.
While Nana is big enough to ride on a full sized horse, Erik said he wanted to ride a horse too, and they got this one ready for him. However, he got nervous about it and in the end didn't go. This is the horse he would've gone on. Nana liked this one, but she was too big to ride it.
About 15 kilometers south of Radium is the town of Invermere, on the edge of Lake Windermere. We rented a cruiser boat one afternoon for a cruise on the lake. Here's Babcia and Dziadzo kicking back at the start of the ride. See more pictures of our holiday here.
