On our vacation we flew from Calgary to Victoria, and stayed there for a day and a night before
driving on the Ucluelet. These first few pics are of that first day in Victoria. Here, Ewa and Kornelia
are hanging out at the boardwalk infront of the Empress Hotel in the Inner Harbour.
This picture is taken from the other side of the same harbour. Again, the Empress hotel is
in the background, and we're standing beside a sailing ship (which the kids called a pirate ship).
Erik and Kornelia standing on the steps of the British Columbia Legislature. It's a really
big, impressive building, with an interesting history.
To give you a little more perspective, Kornelia is still standing on the steps of the
Legislature in this picture.
Again, you can see the Legislature building in the background. Erik and Kornelia are
at the fountain in the foreground, thinking about a refreshing dip.
At the very front of the legislature grounds is the statue of Queen Elizabeth II. Kornelia wanted
her picture taken here.
This totem pole is at the corner of the Legislature grounds. It was built and erected during the recent
commonwealth games in Victoria. Kornelia is standing in the front.
Here's Kornelia and Erik just before we went in to the 'Undersea Gardens' to have an underwater
look at the native sea flora and fauna. They wanted a picture with a 'big' boat. The ferry in the background
goes to Seattle, Washington.
Now at the backside of the Legislature grounds, we found a rose garden. Here Ewa, Kornelia and Erik
strike a pose.
Just before leaving Victoria, we want on a buggy tour around the old town area. That was
really special for the kids, and they wanted their picture taken for remembrance.
Now in Ucluelet, this beach was practically right across the road from our little cabin. Kornelia found a
nice sized snail shell here.
Ewa and Kornelia posing for the camera, with Erik in the background. We're at Wickanninish here - a point on
long beach where there's a interpretive center and a restaurant. The kids couldn't get enough of the sand and water.
More fun in the sand and water at long beach. A couple days after this, we all went on a whale watching tour, and
saw some whales and sea lions just beyond the rocks here.
More digging and exploring. Ewa is joining in now, looking at driftwood.
Still at long beach, we've moved south to the rocks where a plethora of shells were
washed up in the spring storms. Here Kornelia is looking for shell treasures. We also had fun exploring
tidal pools here.
Everybody has joined in the shell hunting now, finding all kinds of shells of different
shapes and sizes.
More exploring and beach combing on the rocks around long beach.
Now Ewa and Kornelia are taking a little break from their explorations and they're enjoying the view.
Just down the road from our cabin, there was a hike to this lighthouse. We had fun looking at fishing boats, hearing
their bells right, and listening to the fog horn. The hummingbirds around here were kamakazi.
I took the kids on a hike though a rain forest in the area. It was a great time until Kornelia found out that there could
be bears around. Then it was 'time to go'.
More of our hike in the rainforest.
Here's Kornelia and Erik by an interesting tree we found on our rain forest hike.
